Senior Portfolio Accountant
Newton, MA


  • Prepare, generate, and review financial reports and supporting work papers monthly, quarterly, and annually on a GAAP basis. Analyze results.
  • Maintain general ledger, prepare/review journal entries and general ledger account analysis. Apply consolidation concepts and accounting for HPT’s subsidiaries.
  • Preparation of accounting memos and assistance with other technical matters.
  • Review monthly hotel operating statements ensuring preparation in accordance with lease and management agreements.
  • Handle all financial aspects of several portfolios of hotels and travel centers.
  • Maintain fixed asset records with WINFAS software to track real estate investments and depreciation. Reconcile monthly workpapers.
  • Facilitate tenant requests for reimbursement of capital purchases, review and analyze supporting documentation for requests and determine useful lives of fixed assets.
  • Assist in preparation and review of SEC filings and related public disclosures. Assist external auditors during their review of the Company’s public filings.
  • Develop and foster a strong relationship with third party hotel managers, tenants and internal asset management staff.
  • Assist in internal audit process including updating internal control policies and testing.
  • Maintain cash forecast and monitor the Company’s cash requirements.
  • Facilitate corporate G&A payments.
  • Cross train on other portfolios within the REIT and provide backup support as needed. Utilize experience to assist in the development of others.
  • Perform special projects as needed and provide support to senior management. Support the HPT team as needed.
  • Strive to identify areas where procedures and efficiency can be improved.
  • Maintain communication with the third-party hotel managers, travel center tenants, departmental managers, corporate accounting and systems team.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a strong record of success in academic and work environment. Minimum GPA 3.0.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Proficiency with Property Management/Accounting software (Yardi preferred).
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word and other Windows applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborate and results-driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively communicate with business partners and management regarding accounting related matters.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and verbal and written communication skills.
